Due to the recent changes in Scientific Qualifications and the new focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mechanics) Treasure House now delivers Design and Technology in place of, or in addition to, a scientific subject.
The new Design and Technology GCSE places greater emphasis on understanding and applying repeated design processes. Students will use their creativity and imagination to design and make prototypes that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.
At present most students in Year 11 are sitting a Technical Award in DT or the Design & Technology GCSE offered by AQA.
In addition to the GSCE, EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) can be offered at Level 2 or 3. In the past few years, projects have included Fashion Textiles and Animation. This offers an opportunity for practical study in a Technology related area offering the freedom to choose to study a special interest at a greater depth.
